5/21/2023 0 Comments Soulver alternative iosIt makes good use of the taller iPhone X, adding more scientific buttons to the keyboard. There’s a multi-line display option, a paper tape, engineering and scientific notation, and an RPN mode. The keys are responsive, there’s a powerful built-in conversion tool for the likes of currency and measurements, and if you have an Apple Watch, PCalc’s watchOS app is the best around.īut this is also an app that reveals new things the more you dig into it. Even if your needs are quite basic, it remains usable. To be fair, though, PCalc isn’t just aimed at professionals, students, and scientists. On iOS, it’s far from the cheapest example, but if you want a traditional and feature-packed scientific calculator, you won’t find anything better on the platform. PCalc is a name that’s synonymous with high-quality calculator apps. Still, if your demands are slight, you only do calculations on an iPhone, and you also want something you can quickly get at from Control Center, Calculator does the job.ĭownload Calculator PCalc – best scientific calculator That’s since been fixed, but it highlights that Apple seemingly doesn’t care too much about this app. The animations were so sluggish that it couldn’t keep up. (Hint: PCalc Lite is your friend, if you want a superb freebie calculator.)Īpple also rather entertainingly broke Calculator quite badly in iOS 11.1. For some reason, iPad users are by default stuck with using Siri to perform basic calculations, or must head to the App Store. That’s because, bafflingly, Apple has yet to port Calculator to iPad. You’ll also notice we’ve so far referred to iPhone throughout. Some button choices are curious, there’s only a single memory slot, and these extra buttons aren’t available in portrait, which is how a lot of people like to use their phones. However, this feels more like lip service than a full-on scientific calculator. Turn your iPhone on its side and you gain access to buttons that let you make more advanced calculations. Tap-hold a result at the top of the screen and it can be copied elsewhere. The big, round buttons are very usable, and operators are brightly colored to make them easy to spot. Calculator – the default option (on iPhone)Īpple’s own Calculator app comes built into your iPhone, and it’s – for the most part – a perfectly decent option if you want to tap out some basic sums.

A lot of the code is custom but what's most interesting imho in how we ended rewriting the game from stratch and went from a different approach in the second iteration. However, we should be working on making detailed tech blog post fairly soon. I'd love to get into the tech in more details but it would be too long here. Dotemu are specialized in doing these kind of things, and they've managed to entangled the rights (which were quite a mess) between the original creator and Sega At that point we showed it to the original creator who was thrilled about it and also we found our publisher Dotemu. It started like a fan project, we did a prototype with Omar during our spare time. Maybe we also need to sit down and play many old and new games and from then evaluate where to go, that is even assuming we end up remaking more old games. Right now maybe we'd need to step back a little from the franchise and see how the reception to Dragon's Trap evolve, in particular in younger players or people who don't know the original enjoy it. On the chances of a Wonder Boy in Monster World remake. After long discussions, we came to the conclusion that they would be a good reward to these tough challenges we added, and that we could still use their overwhelming "charm" for that new sword we added. After originally removing them, I felt that as a player I would personally miss them had they not been present in this version. The team felt that the charm stone system was indeed a bit outdated (and anyway different in the GG version), and required too much grinding. For the soundtrack we are still sorting out the rights to be able to release it.Unfortunately for the OST, there is some legal issues preventing us to sale it. Maybe it would make sense to package all those things together, etc. Creating new artworks would be amazing but they also take a lot of time to make, so we don't know yet. We are still working on figuring out what would be the best direction in term of goodies. I’d also love to remake Castlevania, because I think there’s something to be done with the great feeling of the whip by adding more frames and getting the timing just right, I think we could do something extremely satisfying there.Īlso, it goes without saying that making a new, entirely original Wonder Boy would be great (I think I speak for the whole team here).Īrt book and CD soundtrack releases under consideration. Maybe a Shinobi game?Īnd even though it will never happen, I personally would love to remake the very first Legend of Zelda and make sure that the remake conserves and supports the feel of mystery and discovery that it had, without holding the player’s hand or telling them where "secrets" are and where to go (note: I haven’t played Breath of the Wild yet). Most probably the smaller improvements would go in a normal patch. It would depends if we have an idea that is worthy of it. Of course, with the experience of coding games for 15+ years I had prepared for this in advance, way before we even had hope to get access to a devkit. The hardware and SDK are slick and modern. Working on the Switch was very easy for us. That would have meant redoing 1000 drawings at least. But due to the constraint of production, we thought it would be best to focus on other areas instead. When considering making the Wonder Girl character, I really wanted to add those transformations. On not including female monster transformations for Wonder Girl. The following information comes from a Reddit AMA with various people involved with Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap. 5/20/2023 0 Comments Mathstudio app logoxxv Success in calculus depends to a large. For example, Eastern Time (ET) refers to Eastern Standard Time (EST) or Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), depending on which is currently in use. The time zones in the contiguous US are often referred to by their generic name, without making a difference between standard time and Daylight Saving Time designations. As neither Hawaii nor the 5 dependencies use Daylight Saving Time (DST), there are only 6 corresponding DST time zones. In addition, Alaska, Hawaii, and 5 US dependencies all have their own time zones. The contiguous US has 4 standard time zones. Then, for the mesh federation thing, we’re just doing HTTPS calls and then having decentralized caching of the databases and so on.”Īmong the Twitter back-and-forth about how (or whether) Kobeissi’s concept differs to various other decentralized protocols, someone posted a link to this XKCD cartoon - which lampoons the techie quest to resolve competing standards by proposing a tech that covers all use cases (yet is of course doomed to increase complexity by +1). And that is so self-contained that it’s embeddable everywhere, that’s migratable - and it’s really quite impossible to get this level of simplicity and elegance so quickly unless you go this route. “There are no other files - and then once you have it running, in that folder when you set up your capsule server, it’s just the Capsule program and a Capsule database that is a file. It sets up a server, it contacts Let’s Encrypt, it gets you a certificate, it uses SQLite for the database, which is a serverless database, all of the assets for the web server are within the binary,” he says, walking through the “really nice technical idea” that snagged $100,000 in pre-seed backing insanely fast. And you get that binary and you deploy it and you run it, and that’s it. “When you deploy Capsule right now - I have a prototype that does almost nothing running - it’s basically one binary. “That is kind of terrifying,” he suggests.Ĭapsule would seek to route around the risk of mass deplatforming via “easy to deploy” P2P microservices - starting with a forthcoming web app. court seeking damages and injunctive relief from Apple for allowing Telegram, a messaging platform with 500 million+ users, to be made available through its iOS App Store - “despite Apple’s knowledge that Telegram is being used to intimidate, threaten and coerce members of the public” - raising concerns about “the odds of these efforts catching on.” He also points to a lawsuit that’s been filed in U.S. But he says he is concerned about giant private corporations having unilateral power to shape internet speech - whether takedown decisions are being made by Twitter’s trust and safety lead or Amazon Web Services (which recently yanked the plug on right-wing social network Parler for failing to moderate violent views). Kobeissi also takes that view, while adding the caveat that he’s not “personally” concerned about Trump’s deplatforming. President Donald Trump’s access to their megaphones - a demonstration of private power that other political leaders have described as problematic. Interest in the space has been rekindled in recent weeks after mainstream platforms like Facebook and Twitter took decisions to shut down U.S. Extant examples include ActivityPub, Diaspora, Mastodon, P2P Matrix, Scuttlebutt, Solid and Urbit, to name a few. The list of decentralized/P2P/federated protocols and standards already out there is very long - even while usage remains low. Completely insane.”Ĭapsule is just the latest contender for retooling Internet power structures by building infrastructure that radically decentralizes social platforms to make speech more resilient to corporate censorship and control. “But by the end of the day - last Sunday, eight days ago - I was running a Delaware corporation valued at $10 million with $100,000 in pre-seed funding, which is insane. I’ve been running a business based on consulting and based on academic R&D services,” he continues. Instead the tweet “just completely exploded” and he found himself raising $100,000 “in a single day” - with $50,000 paid in there and then. “I posted that tweet and the expectation that I had was that basically 60 people max would retweet it and then maybe I’ll set up a Kickstarter,” he tells us. 5/20/2023 0 Comments Rad tech week
5/20/2023 0 Comments Dying light the following review"Obviously the biggest new addition to the series is the buggy. Bolters roam the countryside, demanding you to chase them down and collect their livers (yes, it’s for a quest). Merchants hang out in hunting towers selling rare items you wouldn’t find in shops (the towers are also a good source for weapons and items hidden in locked crates). Random events occur, inviting you to save the odd survivor from either zombies or bandits. After the initial story missions, you’ll be left to your devices to complete activities and advance the story, which can be daunting at first.īut the sheer range of activities available in The Following offers a lot of choice. The good news is that the experience doesn’t feel grindy. Your trust with the locals is actually represented by a new bar in your Skills tab – the more side quests, story missions and survivors you help, the more trust you gain and the further the story proceeds. There’s a feeling of ambiguity and suspicion that just keeps pushing you to find the truth. Personally, I found the story-telling in The Following to be slightly better than the base game but only because of the mystery element involved. As an outsider to all these activities, Crane will need to gain the trust of both the locals and the Faceless, priests to the Mother, to investigate this immunity and use it to save the people of Harran. Then there’s the Mother, the leader of a cult which supposedly helps people stay immune thanks to the power of prayer. The campaign features Kyle Crane traversing outside of Harran into “The Countryside” to investigate a rumour of people not turning into zombies and being generally immune to the virus. There’s a feeling of ambiguity and suspicion that just keeps pushing you to find the truth."Īs it stands, there’s nothing revolutionary about The Following. "Personally, I found the story-telling in The Following to be slightly better than the base game but only because of the mystery element involved. Does The Following change things up for the better? Does it offer a wide variety of content to keep players busy? Does it help Dying Light reach its full potential? With the Enhanced Edition, this may be the most compelling reason yet that new players have to jump aboard.īut it’s The Following, the brand new expansion, which will determine if they – and hardcore players – should stay. As Dying Light received more content and support, it began to transform into something fairly compelling. Techland never stopped supporting Dying Light since its release though and transformed the game into a surprisingly compelling loot-based hack and slash adventure set in the first person perspective. It certainly helped that no other major releases were planned at the time but it just felt like a “Mirror’s Edge meets Dead Island” title should have offered more. However, many players – including me – couldn’t find much life in the game despite its intriguing premise. When Techland’s Dying Light released last year, there was suitable fanfare. 5/20/2023 0 Comments Namely kipp la
